Prior to attending Prospect Training Services (PTS), Haydon completed a motor vehicle course at college. He was struggling to find a full-time job or apprenticeship in this area; he had a part-time job but it was not easy for him to access.
Haydon joined the PTS traineeship programme which identified areas he needed to improve, tutors worked with him to strengthen these areas and he was then matched with an excellent employment opportunity at AudiTechnik.
“PTS helped me a lot, especially with my English," Haydon explains. "I struggled to communicate verbally and I got a lot of support with speaking and listening to help me improve.”
Both PTS and AudiTechnik have been pleased with Haydon's work ethic and attitude, and he has always been reliable with time keeping. These great attributes combined with Haydon's willingness to learn are all fantastic skills to have when seeking employment, and he was keen to gain a work-experience placement to help demonstrate these. Traineeship programmes with PTS are tailored to the individual, and we worked hard to make sure Haydon would get his shot.
Today, Haydon is a trainee mechanic, working towards becoming a service technician at AudiTechnik. The placement not only gave him a real understanding of the world of work, but it also confirmed for him that this was the right career choice. His current position has surpassed his expectations and more; he would never have believed he could be working in this role when he left college just a few months ago.
Haydon has improved in confidence working on different cars and models, he’s enjoyed the hands-on approach at PTS and is pleased at how well he has mastered changing brakes and the use of diagnostic machinery. He is delighted that, by working hard at PTS, he has been able to secure full time employment with career prospects, an aspiration which he didn’t think he could achieve so quickly.
"The tutors were all really helpful, Dan supported me on how to write job applications and make an accurate and informative CV, and Bree with verbal and written communication skills." Haydon found going into a work placement put less pressure on him and the employer. He was also provided with support from a number of members of the Audi Tecknik team who got to know him and gave him that confidence we all need to do well.
